Adding a robust search experience to Beachbody’s TV Apps led to increased engagement, retention, and video views.
The challenge: Have you ever tried to use your TV’s remote to type in a search? , right? We knew that when we built a search experience, we had to do it in such a way that got people to their workout much faster than spending 5 infuriating minutes swiping around an on-screen keyboard.
Enter the search-less search: We asked ourselves what a search experience could look like if it didn’t require any typing, and set out to build exactly that. To keep people from needing to type anything, we surfaced the most popular queries from across all our platforms, and brought the most searched-for programs and videos right to the search screen.
By the numbers:
- Usage: Over 60% of customers used the search experience.
- Views: 65% of users who searched ended up watching a video immediately.
- Retention: Brand new users who found something with search were 55% more likely to still be using the app after 30 days (compared to new users who never searched).
